York Designer Outlet is the perfect place for a family day out as there's always something going on, be it a new store opening, a free half term event for children, charity fundraisers or celebrity guest appearances. The Bar Walls of York are the finest and most complete of any town in England. There are five main 'bars' (big gateways), one postern (a small gateway), one Victorian gateway, and 45 towers. At two miles (3.4 kilometres), they are also the longest town walls in the country. We often enjoy going around the walls and it is a fantastic experience on a glorious summer day.
No guide of what York has to offer would be complete without talking about York Minster. There is always something to see and do at northern Europe's largest Gothic cathedral.
Experience the beauty of the Quire and Chapter House, explore the history beneath your feet in the Discover history in the Undercroft, Treasury and Crypt, where you'll find traces of the earlier Norman Minster and of the Roman headquarters where Constantine was proclaimed Emperor and the foundations laid for two thousand years of European Christianity.
The York Barbican centre offers a wide range of events including comedy, a variety of live bands, snooker, family shows and community events. The annual Festival of Remembrance and the Lord Mayor's Carol Concert have returned to the Barbican as a regular part of the programme, as has the Guildhall Orchestra. We are always keen to see the latest events there and many of our customers like to enjoy a meal with us before heading to the York Barbican Centre.
